This series of sculptures are inspired by black walnut trees we cut down to make way for a new studio. Black walnut is coveted by wood carvers so I wanted to keep the wood and try to work with it. I had thought about milling it and using it to trim the new studio. The milling proved to be prohibitive and in the end not very cost effective. I eventually decide to buy some chainsaws and started working the raw lumber.
