Self Portrait Series

16″ x 20″
Charcoal on Paper
2020

I am always drawing but early this year I started working from the live model again. It inspired me to create a formal set of charcoal drawings. I had been discussing the practice of self-portrait with a friend and decided I would do a series of self-portraits. Self-portrait can be a daunting task, one issue I struggle with is creating an object of beauty that has the subject matter as the self. At the risk of narcissism I find the portraits lean toward the grotesque. The current drawings are mostly an exploration of charcoal. the second portfolio of drawings is an exploration of landscape through the lens of the American Tonalist movement.
